ORLANDO, FL — Universal Studios Florida has opened a new quiet room for guests with autism.
According to the park, the quiet room, which opened Monday, is intended for guests who need a quiet, low-stimulation place to take a break from the noise and crowds of the parks.
The room is located in the front of the park next to the Studio Audience Center, the company said.

For children on the autism spectrum, such rooms can offer a calming effect that reduces anxiety and improves focus, according to the Children's Health Council.
Universal Orlando also offers a planning guide for visitors who have autism and other cognitive disorders. The guide is designed to help families enjoy their time at the parks as comfortably and safely as possible.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that about 1 in 44 children in the United States is on the autism spectrum.
The disorder is more than 4 times more common among boys than among girls, the CDC said.
